Why marketers are the next great creators (it's time to build our own brands)

Hi Reader,

I’m Justin and I write Brand Credential—a platform where I share insights on personal branding and marketing from my 12+ years in the industry, including leading marketing teams at startups and now a 5,000+ person tech company.

This week, I’m diving into a trend that’s especially relevant for anyone in marketing: why marketers are the next great creators.

🔍 This week’s insight: marketing professionals are perfectly positioned to become creators

The skills that make a great creator—storytelling, channel strategy, audience building, content creation—are the exact same ones marketers use every day.

That’s why we’re starting to see a wave of marketers becoming part-time creators alongside their in-house marketing gigs.

They’re not pivoting out of marketing. They’re applying it to their own platforms and seeing serious results.

Here’s why now is the marketer-creator moment:

  • LinkedIn is evolving into a creator platform with more tools and creator-style content every week.
  • B2B influencer marketing is booming, and marketers are uniquely qualified to jump in.
  • Companies are increasingly seeing employee personal brands as an asset, not a threat.

And here’s the thing: Building your own brand doesn't just benefit you. It can make you better at your day job.

Here’s what I mean:

  • Execution muscle: Content creation teaches you how to test, ship, and iterate fast. These skills that translate directly back into corporate marketing.
  • Sharper messaging: Writing online forces clarity. Your internal comms, strategy docs, and pitches get tighter.
  • Market awareness: Creating on the side keeps you plugged into trends.
  • Networking and reach: Building an audience brings new ideas and people into your orbit that benefit you and your company.

The stigma around employee personal brands is starting to fade. More companies are recognizing the value—some are even activating their teams as in-house creators.

But even if yours isn’t there yet, you don’t need permission to start.

In this week’s article, I break down:

  • Why marketers are uniquely positioned to thrive as creators.
  • Examples of marketing professionals normalizing this trend—like Christina Le, Ish Verduzco, and Eileen Kwok.
  • A few mindset shifts and systems that can help you stay consistent without burning out.
  • The very real financial upside, from career leverage to brand partnerships.

Whether you're building a personal brand or leading a marketing team, this matters.
